How to Convince Your Boss to Consider SIP

convincemeWe got a call the other day from the only IT resource at a mid-sized company. The poor guy was exasperated. His contract with his voice carrier was up for renewal and he was excited about the opportunity to ditch it in favor of more cost effective SIP trunking. This would simplify his life and save the company a bundle. It’s a no brainer, right? Well not so fast. He called us because he was struggling to convince his boss that this was the right move. Here’s how we helped him overcome his hurdle.

Big Savings

It turns out that his boss knew that SIP trunking could save money, but he didn’t have any idea exactly how much. We were able to calculate that the move to SIP could cut communications costs for this business by about 55%. That’s a figure that will get anyone’s attention. Once the decision maker understood that SIP eliminates most long-distance charges and that it replaces expensive PRI lines with a digital network, his ears were wide open.

Our caller’s company is going through a period of rapid growth. This is both exciting and a little bit scary for business leaders. They may be thinking, “How do I support the growth without overcommitting in case the trajectory stalls?” For businesses in this situation, SIP trunking is the perfect answer. They can buy only the exact number of channels they need today, but add on at will as the team grows. If things take a turn for the worse, the number of channels can easily be reduced.

Little Up Front Investment

Another reassurance we were able to offer to our customer’s boss was that it would not be necessary to replace their old PBX with new hardware. All they had to do was invest in an inexpensive device called an analog telephony adapter and they were good to go. Eventually, they may make the switch to a new PBX or choose a cloud-based solution. Either choice will be compatible with their new SIP trunks.

Disaster Recovery

Although this New Jersey business was spared any major damage during superstorm Sandy, it took four days for power to be restored to the office. During that time, customers received a busy signal when they called. This isn’t something that anyone wants to repeat. We explained that, in the event of a similar situation, SIP calls can be routed around problem areas and set to other offices, mobile or home phones. Callers can get through even if you can’t get into the office.

Free Trial

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, well, so are a thousand words. Because we offer a free trial, our caller was able to quickly set up a SIP trunk and let his boss give it a whirl. Any concerns he had about voice quality or ease of use went right out the window and he quickly realized that SIP is exactly the right choice for their business.

Are there any blockers in your path to selling SIP to management? If so, let us know and we’ll see if we can help your team decide to join the thousands of businesses enjoying the cost savings, ease and flexibility of SIP.
